The Wheels!

Well, a road trip wouldn’t be a road trip without a nice set of wheels, so, as promised, here’s the low-down on the rental car we have for our epic 4000 mile journey.

We originally wanted a Chrysler 300C, however the quote we got was a bit out of our budget, so we went for a Chevrolet Impala instead.  In the same class as the Impala was a Dodge Charger, so either of those would have provided an authentic American car experience, although we were all hoping for the Dodge Charger.  🙂  Unfortunately, when it came time to pick up the car, the rental company were all out of Chargers.  😦  In fact, they were nearly completely out of cars, so Nathan was given the option to choose from the remaining cars on the lot, for the same price we’d booked.  He chose…

So, suffice it to say, we’re all very happy with our new wheels, and very excited about the prospect of cruising along the Mother Road in this.  Plus, it’ll look awesome with JFRT stickers on…  😛

See, that’s the problem with car rental companies– none of ’em have candy-apple red ’55 Chevy Bel-Airs or pink ’59 Caddies, as long as a yacht with a spokie on the back anymore. I’d settle for an Impala or Charger personally as long as it was the old Seventies-tastic model with the three-story spoiler– the new ones are just cop cruisers and cabs.

So the 300 should suit you well in Chi-Town– it’s got that Capone Gang look about it, as Top Gear said, “something of the night.” Keep your tommy gun handy…
